COVID-19 Petition to Governors

To my Governor:

Thank you for your service to the people of our state. 

I am a supporter of The Convention of States Project, an effort to rein in federal overreach through an Article V Convention to propose constitutional amendments that will impose fiscal restraints, limit federal power and jurisdiction, and set term limits for federal officials. 

I support COS because I believe in self-governance. The rights of the people are God-given, and the legitimate power of government is limited to those we delegate to it through our Constitution.

As our state weathers the current COVID-19 crisis, I know that some extraordinary measures must be taken to protect the public health and welfare. But I also know that in times like these, citizens can grow fearful, allowing governments to drift toward tyranny.  

By signing this petition, I hereby formally request that as our governor, you err always on the side of freedom. As a self-governing citizen, I will act according to reason, prudence, and good faith, in the best interests of myself, my family, and my community. I have no need for a government bureaucracy to tell me where I can go or what I can do.  I have no need to be “ordered” to use my common sense, and I will always do so on behalf of myself, my family, my community and my country.  

We, the American people, can and will govern ourselves, and we hereby express our intention to judge your performance in office on the demonstration of your commitment to protecting our individual liberty.  Please provide us with timely and complete information, and honor our Constitution by implementing only such measures as are strictly necessary to protect the most fundamental elements of public safety and narrowly tailored toward that end.
